July 19, 2012 - Carmona for Arizona volunteer Danny Carroll has been one of our hardest working volunteers since the early days of the campaign. We were happy to sit down with him and get his thoughts on the campaign, the candidate, and his life in general. He was so busy he couldn’t even stop to take a proper picture, but don’t worry, we got an action shot. Thanks for all your hard work, Danny!
Volunteer Spotlight Danny Carroll
What do you do when you’re not volunteering for the campaign?
Danny: I am a big sports fan. I follow sports and I do a lot of things outdoors such as hiking and playing basketball. I also play a lot of tennis.
What type of volunteer work have you done so far for this campaign?
Danny: I have done things from stuffing envelopes and data entry to being a part time scheduler. I’ve done lots of field work. I’m kind of like a utility guy; I’ve helped out every department.
What have you enjoyed most about volunteering?
Danny: Gaining lots of knowledge on how campaigns work. I also really enjoy working directly with the directors and learning from them.
What motivated you to work for Dr. Carmona?
Danny: My father grew up with Dr. Carmona and I’ve been interested in politics since high school. Once I read more into his campaign, I felt very compelled to help out, mainly because he is a reasonable individual and the right guy for Arizona. He’s a problem solver, and I want to see him help change the politics of Arizona.
What would you like to see him improve in Arizona?
Danny: The education system. The education system is a big failure in Arizona, and with his background as being a professor, he could really help the state. His whole background is extremely impressive, and his leadership would help the youth get better education and get our state out of the fiftieth spot in education.
How do you think Dr. Carmona relates to the people of Arizona and what makes him an appealing candidate?
Danny: He can relate to anyone because his background is so diverse, coming from poverty in New York to being the surgeon general, he has seen all facets of life. I think he can relate to the people of Arizona because of his past experiences. He’s an appealing candidate because he’s Superman. The man can do anything. He has a background in health and law enforcement, which is a jack of all trades. A person with that background is clearly a leader, and that’s the most appealing thing about him.
What sets Dr. Carmona apart from the other candidates running for Senate?
Danny: His resume, his background, his diverse background in all different fields. That’s what sets him apart. He can relate to any kind of individual. His leadership, his drive, growing up in poverty to being Surgeon General, you absolutely have to have the will power to get through that.
